This event is sponsored by Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and The New York State office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence in commemoration of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Special Guest Eve Ensler, Tony Award Winning Playwright and Activist.

The AHA Foundation's 2nd Annual Conference on Honor Violence and Forced Marriage

John Jay College

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office will participate in the Second Annual Conference on Honor Violence and Forced Marriage at John Jay College on October 4th, 2012.  The Conference will bring together leading criminal justice professionals, first responders and domestic violence shelter staff members to focus on the emerging problems of honor violence and forced marriage in the United States.  Conference speakers will provide information on how to identify cases, best practices for investigating and prosecuting cases of honor violence and honor killings, as well as guidance on how to protect potential victims.

‘Bully’ Film Screening and Panel Discussion

John Jay College of Criminal Justice

On October 11, 2012, please join New York County District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr., John Jay College President Jeremy Travis, and United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew for a private screening of the documentary film ‘Bully.’ This critically-acclaimed film, which follows five American high school students, describes in vivid detail the impact of bullying on victims, their families, and society at large.

A panel discussion, moderated by Executive Assistant District Attorney Karen Friedman-Agnifilo, will immediately follow the screening. The panel of experts includes Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Joel Haber; Director of School Safety for the United Federation of Teachers, David Kazansky; and Chief of the Cybercrime and Identify Theft Bureau, ADA David Szuchman.

Deferred Action “The Basics” Presentation

Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Immigrant Affairs Program, along with Catholic Charities, the Office of Councilwoman Melissa Mark-Viverito, and the New York Immigration Coalition will host a Deferred Action “The Basic” Presentation for East Harlem community at the Hunter School of Social Work located 2180 Third Avenue (corner of East 119thStreet).
