Chinatown Small Business Educational Workshop: Complying with Labor Laws

Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, 62 Mott Street, 2nd Floor Conference Room

 

The New York County District Attorney’s Office, New York County Lawyers’ Association, Asian American Bar Association, Mayor’s Office of Small Business Services New Business Acceleration Team, the Chinatown BID, Chinatown Partnership and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce invite small business owners to attend a series of free education workshops on complying with State and City tax laws and regulations. This training workshop will consist of five evening classes.

On October 1st from 6:00-8:00pm, the workshop will focus on: Complying with requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, Wage Protection Act, and the New York Construction Fair Play Act, as well as the filing of withholding returns, the payment of unemployment insurance tax and the rules governing workers compensation.

The following workshops will cover:

October 15: Obtaining and reviewing necessary licenses and permits issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Department of Buildings and information required by the Business Integrity Commission and the Mayors’ Office of Small Business Services.

October 22: Education on immigration issues.

“Shine the Light on Domestic Violence”

Times Square, Manhattan

On Monday, October 7, 2013, in commemoration of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office will co-sponsor the fourth annual “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence” march and ceremony. Staff will join Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, the NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and hundreds of service providers and victim advocates at this important event. The “Westside Walk Against Domestic Violence” will commence promptly at 5:30pm on the steps of Roosevelt Hospital (1000 10thAvenue at 59thStreet) and conclude in Times Square for the purple lighting ceremony. Mt. Pleasant Christian Academy Students to Visit Manhattan DA's Office

On October 17, 2013, students of Mt. Pleasant Christian AcademySchool participated in a discussion and tour of the Courts led by two Manhattan Assistant District Attorneys from the Appeals Bureau. The Assistant District Attorneys spoke to approximately 10 students from ages 15-18, about the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and provided a brief overview of the criminal justice system. The group also watched cases being arraigned and observed a trial in progress at the Manhattan Criminal Court.

Domestic Violence Presentation at the Hudson Guild

The Hudson Guild is a multi-service community center serving the Chelsea community with a focus on those in need.
