Hate Crime Presentation at Fordham University

Fordham University

On November 6, the Office will be at Fordham University to give a lecture on hate crimes. The lecture will be given by the Deputy Chief of our Hate Crimes Unit and will include a thorough overview of the New York State hate crime law. It will also include a discussion of the statute’s history and definition. This lecture will be hosted by Fordham’s Black Student Alliance at 3:00pm at the Lincoln Center campus. Domestic Violence Information Fair at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice

On November 7, staff from the Office will participate in the annual Domestic Violence Information Fair at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Staff will be providing important information regarding intimate partner violence and offering referrals and direct services to fair attendees. Protecting the Elderly from Financial Crimes

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House; 331 East 70th Street, New York, NY 10021

On Friday, November 8, 2013 the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office will conduct a presentation on ‘Protecting the Elderly from Financial Crimes’ at the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House.

The presentation is being held with the assistance of the Carter Burden Center for the Aging and the East 79th Street Neighborhood Association. Assistant District Attorney Liz Loewy, Elder Abuse Unit Chief, will discuss how criminals prey on the elderly, how to detect and prevent financial exploitation and what to do if you or someone you know has been victimized.

“Cyber Crimes Against Children” Presentation

On November 13, from 5:30–7:30pm, the Office’s Cybercrime and Identity Theft Bureau will give a presentation on cybercrimes against children to an audience of social workers at the New York Foundling Vincent J. Fontana Center for Child Protection. The presentation will be part of New York Foundling’s annual conference for child welfare professionals.
