Washington Heights: Protect Your Community in the Wake of the Immigration Reform!

Washington Heights

As of today, March 4, 2013, immediate relatives of U.S. citizens can apply for “Provisional Unlawful Presence Waivers.”  Until now, immigrants who returned to their country of origin to complete visas would be barred from returning to the U.S. for three or ten years. The “Unlawful Presence Waiver” would reduce the time of separation between applicants and their U.S. citizen relatives.

The Immigrant Affairs Program of the New York County District Attorney's Office, the Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights, The People’s Theatre Project, and Centro Altagracia de Fe y Justicia are partnering to address the need for information and awareness within Manhattan’s immigrant communities relating to this policy change and associated potential fraud risks.

The event will provide community leaders with information regarding this waiver and how to recognize and prevent scams that target immigrants. There will be a theatrical presentation relating to immigration fraud by the People’s Theatre Project, recognized by the New York Times, The New York Daily News, and El Diario La Prensa.
