East Harlem Family Day

P.S./M.S. 7 courtyard at 119th Street and Lexington Avenue

On March 15th, New York City Police Department and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment of 18 members of the “Fetti Boys” gang for possessing and selling crack cocaine and marijuana in East Harlem. They sometimes packaged the drugs in “Sour Power” candy wrappers, selling them openly and without regard for the negative impact they had on the community. In addition, this gang engaged in a violent war with two other nearby gangs that terrorized a whole neighborhood, including a school and an assisted-living senior housing development, and created turf lines in a community that was once united.

We are partnering with NYPD and local stakeholders to host an “East Harlem Family Day” on Saturday, June 1st between 12pm and 4pm at the P.S./M.S. 7 courtyard at 119th Street and Lexington Avenue. Our purpose is to reunite the community by coming together in a local space—by providing fun activities, food, and information about resources in the community. We expect they will feel welcome to enjoy what is now a safe corridor for years to come.
