Chinatown Small Business Educational Workshop: Maintaining business books and records

Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, 62 Mott Street, 2nd Floor Conference Room

The New York County District Attorney’s Office, New York County Lawyers’ Association, Asian American Bar Association, Mayor’s Office of Small Business Services New Business Acceleration Team, the Chinatown BID, Chinatown Partnership and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce invite small business owners to attend a series of free education workshops on complying with State and City tax laws and regulations. This training workshop will consist of five evening classes.

On September 17th from 6:00-8:00 pm, the workshop will focus on: Maintaining Business Books and Records.

The following workshops will cover:

September 24: Proper filing of State and City business taxes.

October 1: Complying with requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, Wage Protection Act, and the New York Construction Fair Play Act, as well as the filing of withholding returns, the payment of unemployment insurance tax and the rules governing workers compensation.

October 15: Obtaining and reviewing necessary licenses and permits issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Department of Buildings and information required by the Business Integrity Commission and the Mayors’ Office of Small Business Services.

October 22: Education on immigration issues.

“Pursuing a Career as an Assistant District Attorney” – A Diversity Panel Discussion & Reception

On September 24, from 5:30–8:00pm, the Office’s Diversity Committee and the Asian American Bar Association of New York will host a Panel Discussion & Reception for local law students and practicing lawyers. The panel will be comprised of local Asian-American prosecutors who will discuss diversity and share their personal experiences. Guests will have an opportunity to meet legal staff from local DA’s offices following the discussion.
