Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Participates in the Mexican Consulate’s 6th Annual Labor Rights Week
From August 25, 2014 to August 30, 2014, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office participated in the 6thAnnual Mexican Consulate Labor Right’s Week Program. The program is an initiative of the Mexican Consulate and the U.S. government to educate the immigrant community on how to report labor abuses and violations in the workplace to the authorities.
This year, the event focused on educating the attendees about labor trafficking. Hildalyn Colon-Hernandez, Principal Community Coordinator discussed some of the labor trafficking indicators and explained the efforts of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office to collaborate with community partners, including consular offices, to educate the larger immigrant community. Several hundred members of the Mexican community participated in the week-long event.
