New York County District Attorney's Office Participates in Community Forum Hosted by Friendship Baptist Church
On Wednesday, May 1, 2013, the New York County District Attorney's Office participated in a community forum on gun violence hosted by Friendship Baptist Church. The forum was held at Friendship Baptist Church, located at 144thWest 131stStreet in West Harlem.
The forum featured discussion from community and clergy leaders who denounced youth violence. The speakers included Rev. Vernon Williams of the Harlem Clergy and Community Leadership Coalition (HCCLC), Jackie Rowe Adam of Harlem Mother S.A.V.E. and Rev. James A. Kilgore of the Friendship Baptist Church. Representing the New York County District Attorney's Office was Community Affairs Coordinator Famod Konneh. Mr. Konneh highlighted the many programs and initiatives that the New York County District Attorney's Office has implemented to help address youth violence in the borough. He spoke about the Saturday Night Lights free professional sport training programs for young people, the DA’s Office High School Summer Internship Program, and the Brotherhood Sister Sol 2011 Summer Internship; a program developed out of a desire to engage youth, and provide them with unique educational and cultural opportunities, and the Circle Safety partnership with Harlem Hospital. About 30 people attended the forum.
