New York County District Attorney's Office Conducts a Discussion about Gang Awarness to Youth at Henry Street Settlement; Boys and Girls Republic on the Lower East Side

On Monday, January 9th, 2012, an Assistant District Attorney from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Trial Bureau 80 joined Wendy Chavez-Tchagoue of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office’s Community Affairs Unit at the Henry Street Settlement located at 888 East 6thon the Lower East Side for a discussion about Gang Awareness.
Assistant District Attorney explained the definition of gangs, and how to identify signs of gang activity as well as the consequences of gang involvement for themselves, their families and the community. Also discussed was what community members can do to protect themselves and how to report gang related criminal activity. Approximately 40 participants were in attendance.
