DA VANCE MEETS WITH CHINESE-AMERICAN LEADERS AND ADVOCATES AT ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. today hosted a roundtable discussion with Chinese-American business leaders and advocates to reaffirm his commitment to protecting all New Yorkers. Representatives from the following organizations attended today’s roundtable: Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association; Womankind; Asian Americans for Equality; Chinese Chamber of Commerce of New York; Chinatown Partnership; and Chinese American Planning Council. At the meeting, District Attorney Vance discussed the work of the Office’s Hate Crimes, Immigrant Affairs, and Elder Abuse Units, and reminded participants that the Office is a safe place to report crime—regardless of immigration status.

“Now more than ever, it is important that New Yorkers make use of this Office as a community resource and as a safe place to report crime,” said District Attorney Vance. “I was delighted to host our Chinese-American partners, and I look forward to continued collaboration in the coming months.”

Today’s roundtable follows the launch of an awareness campaign drawing attention to “Evil Spirits” scams, which target Chinese-American senior citizens, earlier this year. Victims of immigration fraud are encouraged to report crimes to the Office’s Immigration Affairs Unit hotline by calling 212-335-3600.
