Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau today announced that a plaque was dedicated to commemorate the service of Farid “Fred” Ghussin, who served in the Office’s Investigation Bureau and died in 2007. Mr. Ghussin, who was fluent in Arabic and Hebrew, was a former police officer in his native Israel. He joined the staff of the District Attorney’s Office in 1990. Mr. Ghussin was assigned many high-profile cases in the Investigation Bureau. As a Senior Rackets Investigator, he handled cases that had national and international ramifications. He was involved in the prosecution of Sheik Abdul Rahman, who was convicted of terrorism in connection with the first World Trade Center attack in 1993. He also worked on a myriad of other important investigations including the Oil for Food/United Nations Program, Enron, Tyco and the Bank of Credit Commerce International (BCCI). Mr. Ghussin worked tirelessly with the rescue teams and recovery volunteers at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attack. In 2005, Mr. Ghussin was stricken with cancer. The disease was attributed to his work at Ground Zero. ###
