DISTRICT ATTORNEY CYRUS R. VANCE, JR. ANNOUNCES SEX CRIMES INDICTMENT |
|
| Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., today announced the indictment of MARVELL SCOTT, a former sportscaster, for raping a 14-year-old girl inside his Manhattan apartment [1]. A New York County Grand Jury has indicted SCOTT, 36, on charges of rape, patronizing a prostitute, and child endangerment. As charged in the indictment and described in court documents, on June 5, 2008, a 14-year-old girl, who had run away from home, encountered a male individual in Times Square. At approximately 3:45 p.m., in the vicinity of 47th Street and Ninth Avenue, SCOTT met up with the man, the underage victim, and the victim’s 16-year-old friend. SCOTT paid the man and took the two teens up to his apartment on West 47th Street. The defendant raped the 14-year-old girl in his bedroom; the 16-year-old girl was also in the bedroom at the time of the incident.
A class D felony is punishable by 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison and a class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to 1 year in jail. District Attorney Vance thanked Deputy Chief Theresa Shortell, Commanding Officer of the New York City Police Department Special Victims Division, Lieutenant Adam Lamboy, Commanding Officer of the NYPD Manhattan Special Victims Squad, and Detective Shirley Figueroa, formerly of the NYPD Manhattan Special Victims Squad, and now assigned to the NYPD Manhattan Child Abuse Squad. Sex Crimes Unit Chief and Assistant District Attorney Lisa Friel is handling the prosecution with the assistance of Assistant District Attorney Siobhan Carty of the Sex Crimes Unit. [1] The charges contained in the indictments are merely allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
