DA VANCE ANNOUNCES MURDER CHARGES IN HARLEM CRASH THAT KILLED NUN, INJURED FOUR |
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., announced today the arrest and arraignment of WILLIAM ROBBINS and DYSON WILLIAMS on charges of Murder in the Second Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree [1]. “A violent crime took a tragic turn on Tuesday, when a car plowed through a group of people, injuring several and killing one,” said District Attorney Vance. “Sister Mary Celine Graham spent her entire adult life, more than 60 years, with the Franciscan Handmaids of Mary. She devoted herself to the preschool children at St. Benedict’s Day Nursery in Harlem, and her senseless death is truly a loss to her order, her community and our City. I would like to thank the New York City Police Department for its work in apprehending these dangerous individuals.” On June 22nd DYSON WILLIAMS and WILLIAM ROBBINS were involved in several armed robberies in Harlem, stealing a cell phone, cash and an iPod from two victims in the early morning hours, according to the criminal complaint filed in court. The crimes occurred near West 123rd Street and Lenox Ave., where the men returned at approximately 9:20 a.m. At that time, WILLIAMS exited a blue Chrysler Pacifica and approached a third victim, demanding the victim’s property, which was a black backpack. According to the complaint, the Chrysler Pacifica was pulled over by police minutes later, near West 141st Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard. A police officer ordered ROBBINS, who was seated in the driver’s seat, out of the car. ROBBINS exited the car, and WILLIAMS moved to the driver’s seat and drove off, according to the criminal complaint. Within minutes the Chrysler Pacifica struck another vehicle and a group of pedestrians at the intersection of West 122nd Street and Lenox Avenue. Four people sustained injuries as a result of that collision. The collision also resulted in the death of another victim, Sister Mary Celine Graham. Defendant Information: WILLIAM ROBBINS, 01/30/92 DYSON WILLIAMS, 11/03/89 New York, NY Charges:
A Class A felony is punishable by up to life in prison, a Class B felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison, a Class C felony is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and a Class D felony is punishable by up to 7 years in prison. ### Additional news available at: www.manhattanda.org Follow us at twitter.com/ManhattanDA New York County District Attorney | duggane@dany.nyc.gov | 212-335-9400 [1] The charges contained in the criminal complaint are merely allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
