“As alleged, this postal worker abused his position to steal checks, and worked with others to withdraw as much money as possible before their fraud was uncovered,” said District Attorney Bragg.
“I commend the Downstate Coalition for Crime Victims for their tenacious advocacy on behalf of survivors and victims of crime,” said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Bragg says it’s the first time this office has devoted this much attention and focus on hate crimes. “It’s really directing the resources to an urgent need,” he said. “We’ve got two senior executives in the office overseeing this, and we’ve really invested in community relations.”
Last week, Bragg unveiled an online application through which anyone with a closed case that was prosecuted by the Manhattan DA’s office can request to have their conviction reviewed. Those not directly involved in a case can also submit an application on behalf of another person with a past conviction.
“This egregious hate incident against two Black men further demonstrates the hate crimes epidemic we are facing in our City, and highlights the need for urgent action to address the trauma many communities are facing,” said DA Bragg. “If you have been a victim or witness to a hate crime or bias incident, please call our Hate Crimes Hotline at 212-335-3100.”
