Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. today announced the sentencing of WILLIAM DIXON, 61, to 10-to-20 years in prison for sodomizing an 11-year-old girl at knifepoint in 1993. On September 4, 2019, DIXON pleaded guilty in New York Supreme Court to one count of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree.

“This case – a brutal sex assault on an 11-year-old girl – underscores the importance of ending the national rape kit backlog by testing every kit,” said D.A. Vance. “For more than two decades, William Dixon evaded law enforcement while this young victim agonized over whether her assailant would ever be held accountable. But thanks to the groundbreaking work of my office’s Sex Crimes and Forensic Sciences Units as well as our resolve to test every kit, the defendant has finally been brought to justice and will serve a lengthy sentence for his horrific crime.”

The press release from his arraignment is available here.

Assistant D.A. Martha Bashford, Chief of the Sex Crimes Unit, handled the prosecution of this case with Assistant D.A. Megan McDermott, under the supervision of Executive Assistant D.A. John Irwin, Chief of the Trial Division. Senior Investigator Alan Sandomir provided valuable assistance with the case.

District Attorney Vance thanked NYPD Detective Michael Rama of the Special Victims’ Division.
