DA Vance: Man Sentenced to 21 Years For Sex Abuse, Robbery

April 11, 2018

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. today announced the sentencing of KEON ROBINSON, 29, to 21 years in prison for attacking two women in Harlem in the Spring of 2017. On February 26, 2018, the defendant pleaded guilty in New York State Supreme Court to Robbery in the First and Second Degrees and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

“Keon Robinson is a predator who brutally and viciously attacked two women in Harlem, robbing them and leaving them bruised and bloodied on the street,” said District Attorney Vance. “In the case of one of the survivors, who was visiting New York from Germany, the defendant knocked the victim unconscious, and then viciously sexually abused her. Our City is safer with predators like this defendant off our streets, and I thank my Office’s Sex Crimes Unit for holding him accountable for these attacks. I urge all survivors to call my Office’s Sex Crimes Hotline at 212-335-9373.”

As admitted in the defendant’s guilty plea, at approximately 4:00 a.m. on April 24, 2017, ROBINSON approached a 35-year-old woman on Bradhurst Avenue in Harlem. The defendant simulated a gun with his hand in his pocket and demanded her bag. When the victim screamed, ROBINSON punched her in the face, causing her to fall. He then fled the scene with the victim’s bag. She suffered a black eye, bruising to her upper lip, pain, and swelling to her jaw.

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on May 4, 2017, ROBINSON approached a 31-year-old woman, who was visiting Manhattan from Germany, on West 146th Street in Harlem. He put his arm around her throat, told her he had a gun and demanded her bag. He then grabbed the bag and punched her in the face, breaking her tooth and knocking her to the ground. He continued to punch her numerous times while she was on the ground, knocking her unconscious.

While the victim was unconscious, the defendant sexually abused her. During the assault, the victim woke up, at which point ROBINSON punched her at least five more times until she stopped moving, before sexually abusing her again and eventually fleeing with her bag. The victim was treated at Harlem Hospital, she suffered a concussion, a laceration to the back of her head that required two staples, a broken tooth, two black eyes, multiple bruises on her face, neck and body, and substantial pain.

Following the attacks the defendant fled New York City and was eventually arrested in Albany on May 11, 2017.

Assistant D.A. Shannon Lucey, Deputy Chief of the Sex Crimes Unit, handled the prosecution of the case, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Martha Bashford, Chief of the Sex Crimes Unit, and Executive Assistant D.A. John Irwin, Chief of the Trial Division. Former Assistant D.A. Erin Reid also assisted with the prosecution.

District Attorney Vance thanked the NYPD’s Manhattan Special Victims Squad, specifically Detective Madeline Acevedo.
