District Attorney Vance Urges Victims of Clergy Sex Abuse to Come Forward

September 12, 2018

“The extensive sexual abuse outlined in the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s report is deeply disturbing, as are the coordinated efforts to conceal that abuse. My Office will take all investigative steps necessary to ensure that justice is brought to the survivors of any such sexual abuse. We encourage survivors of child sexual abuse or anyone else with relevant information to call our Sex Crimes Hotline at 212-335-9373. You can also report abuse through our website at manhattanda.org/clergy-abuse. Even if you believe that the sexual misconduct may have occurred outside the statute of limitations, please contact us – we are here to help, and can connect you to the support and services you need.

“As we pursue any and all investigative leads, we are also committed to examining ways to update existing reporting protocols established with the Archdiocese of New York in 2002. We stand ready and willing to assist with the New York Attorney General’s civil investigation. And, we will continue to advocate for the passage of the Child Victims Act, which would finally extend the unnecessarily short statute of limitations that bars justice for these survivors in case after case.”
