Statement by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. on Senate’s Failure to Advance Extreme Risk Protection Order Act

June 22, 2018

“The State Senate has failed the families and communities who sent them to Albany. In other states, family members and law enforcement can ask courts to remove guns from domestic abusers and those experiencing a mental health crisis. By failing to enact this popular, commonsense provision, the Senate pretends as though nothing more can be done to prevent gun violence in New York. Their inaction is deeply disappointing to law enforcement agencies who work proactively to prevent gun violence, and to the residents of Manhattan who we are sworn to protect.”
