January 26, 2023

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of ROLAND CODRINGTON, 35, for stabbing and killing 60-year-old pediatrician Dr. Bruce Henry and 51-year-old James Cunningham in two separate incidents. CODRINGTON was also indicted for a non-fatal double stabbing at a bar in East Harlem.

“Roland Codrington allegedly wreaked havoc across the city in a crime spree that left two dead,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Manhattanites deserve to live their daily lives without the fear of being attacked. My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record, on December 19, 2022, Mr. Cunningham left a bar in the East Village and CODRINGTON approached Mr. Cunningham outside the bar. CODRINGTON pulled out a knife and slashed Mr. Cunningham in the neck, leaving him bleeding. Mr. Cunningham was pronounced dead at the hospital.

On December 22, 2022, CODRINGTON stabbed two individuals who witnessed him harassing a woman at a bar and tried to stop him. Both suffered serious, non-fatal wounds.

On December 23, 2022, following the incidents in East Harlem and the East Village, CODRINGTON walked to Marcus Garvey Park, where he approached Dr. Henry and stabbed him more than 30 times. Dr. Henry was pronounced dead on the scene. CODRINGTON took the keys to Dr. Henry’s vehicle and drove from the scene. He was eventually apprehended in the Bronx, where he was found inside the vehicle.
